Eliminating Health Disparities

Before, I thought that maybe vaccines caused autism. Now I have more information – I know the autism link is a myth. I can make better decisions. CHIMC empowered me!  And I can help empower my friends. These comments are from a parent involved in  CHIMC  – Community Health Improvements for Milwaukee’s Children, a participatory research program to improve immunization rates for children.

CHIMC  held its Eighth Year Celebration in January with over 40 community partners, parent participants and steering committee members in attendance. CHIMC partners with Neighborhood House and the Medical College of Wisconsin to increase immunization rates in Milwaukee’s low income zipcodes.

Keynote speaker Alderman Willie Hines Jr., principal investigator Dr. Earnestine Willis, and parent participants took the podium. Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, Next Door Foundation and the City of Milwaukee Health Department received awards for their involvement. New Manna Café and Catering provided a healthy lunch.
