How to Make a Nest-Helper

When birds make a nest in spring, they need to make a soft, warm place that’s safe for eggs.  Leaves, cattail puff, moss, feathers, fur and other things from their environment can all go into a good nest.

Our Early Childhood  kids help by gathering cotton, string, cat hair, shredded paper, wig hair, ribbon and other things birds can use, and putting them together in a colorful nest-helper.

This Nature Time activity helps develop our fine motor skills and cognitive skills. We also compared what people and birds need for safe and warm homes. Then we hung our nest-helpers outside. Now we’ll watch and wait for birds to come and use our stuff!
