Workplace visits a highlight of summer school

ILC’s Vocational ESL students had the chance to tour four Milwaukee area workplaces this summer. The students – all new arrivals from Burma, many of them with agricultural experience – toured the warehouse at BuySeasons and met other Burmese refugees working there; visited with a Hmong farmer at Westtown Farmer’s Market (and learned how much hand-made baskets are going for);  got hands-on experience packing boxes at Feeding America; and met former ILC students working at the Wheaton Franciscan Laundry. Students got an introduction to American workplaces and workplace culture so they can make more informed choices about employment in the US.
