ILC Presents at National Adult Ed Conference

ILC was honored to have been selected to present at an upcoming national conference for adult educators, the first joint COABE/ ProLiteracy Conference, “Coming Together in Chicago.”

Our presentation was titled “Refugees’ Stories: Perspectives on the Challenges of Cultural Adjustment in the US.”  It featured a video of ILC staff members from Hmong, Lao, and Somali Bantu refugee groups sharing their experiences of adjusting to life in the US, with particular regard to education and language learning. Participants  discussed refugees’ special needs, and what instructional strategies can help refugees be more successful students, parents, and community members.
