Community center celebrates 70 years with fundraiser and silent auction

Neighborhood House of Milwaukee proudly welcomes keynote speaker Will Allen to its celebration HARVEST of HOPE: 70th Anniversary Gala. Allen, a renowned Urban Farmer and MacArthur grant winner, got his start teaching Neighborhood House teens how to grow food in the city. There are a few seats still available for the event Thursday November 12, 2015 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at Discovery World.

Exclusive auction offerings for the fundraiser include in-home chef dinners by Mason Street Grill’s Mark Weber and other top Milwaukee chefs with online bidding available now, Lively performances by Neighborhood House youth, and a scholarship award presented by the law firm of Reinhart Boerner round out the evening.

The event showcases the vital role Neighborhood House plays on the city’s near west side, and its early and ongoing commitment to urban agriculture and outdoor education. Its creation of Neighborhood House Garden Park on 27th Street recently transformed a blighted city corner into a food-growing oasis for children and families, and its acclaimed nature programs get over 1000 urban kids outdoors every year.

Jeff Martinka, Executive Director of Neighborhood House, expects the event to raise funds and raise the profile for a community center that has been a stalwart part Milwaukee for seven decades, “We’ve made amazing strides in recent years and are proud to be celebrating 70 years at a time of renewed strength and focused adaptation. We’re a vital part of this neighborhood’s history and its future as the near west side grows and changes.”
