World Refugee Day – June 20, 2012

Each year on June 20th the United Nations and countless civic groups around the world celebrate World Refugee Day.  At ILC we help over 500 refugees and their families every year.

World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. Millions need your help.

USA for UNHCR has released an announcement featuring a public service announcement from Angelina Jolie, UNHCR Special Envoy, as well as a link to forward information about refugees to your contacts.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has posted Refugee Resettlement: Myths Busted poster on its “Mythbusters”webpage (which includes an Immigration Mythbuster poster as well).

We are glad to share with you in the important work of serving refugees, and are grateful for the inspiration that refugees, their advocates, their service providers, and their new communities provide.
