NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE NATURE CENTER
-Robert Wagner (Board Member), 1969
“This land would expose inner city children to outdoor activities on a far larger scale than local parks.”
The 93-acre Nature Center (NHNC) has been in the Neighborhood House family since 1969. Originally named the The Farm, this inviting property served as a place for families and staff to grow and share fresh food, escape the city noise, and enjoy natures splendor. Throughout the years it has evolved into a premier location for environmental education and hands-on exploration.
Environmental Education Programs
March Sugarbushing/Maple Syrup Making: (Nature Center Only)
Come to our nature center to tap into the craft of old fashioned maple sugaring (originally called sugarbushing), look for plant and animal signs of Spring, and learn to play some of the Indigenous winter games traditionally played in Wisconsin. Tap a sugar maple, race in snowshoes, and look out for Turkey Vultures, all before tasting the delicious maple syrup!
Nature Time (pre-k - 2nd grade), Science Adventures (3rd - 5th grade), Green Teens (6th - 8th grade and high school): (Nature Center and Onsite in summer, Onsite only rest of the year)
Students will team up with an Environmental Education team to learn about nature's wonders! Learn about birds, insects, fish, plants, soil, space, and more! Check back often for new programs each year!
Stewardship Saturdays: (Nature Center Only)
Experience the Neighborhood House Nature Center through guided hikes, birdwatching, plant identification, and more! You'll have plenty of opportunities to get hands on by helping to improve trails, remove invasive plants, and participate in plant and animal monitoring!
