OUR INTERNATIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM BUILDS COMMUNITY

“I felt like I belonged here in America after feeling so overwhelmed and lost.” Our International Learning Program (ILP) not only helps individuals become U.S. citizens and learn English as a second language, it is also a place for many families to feel the same belonging Htee shares while talking about her personal experience in this video. EMBRACING EDUCATION, RESOURCES AND FAMILY

We recently asked some of our staff what makes Neighborhood House of Milwaukee special to them. Jerri Washington, Finance Director, has been part of the Neighborhood House of Milwaukee family for 23 years.

“I am who I am because of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee. I have built bonds with individuals here that are as strong as individuals that are in my blood line.” The family bonds she has made and the impact she has seen at work continues to inspire her.

MAKING AN IMPACT BY EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS

Mya Mays, 2023 Ray Woods Youth of the Year Scholarship recipient, reflects on how Neighborhood House of Milwaukee has impacted her life:

“I’ve overcome some fears that I’ve had and learned some new things. Neighborhood House has taught me some different life skills — learning how to be an adult, independence, how to face different challenges — to make me the person I am today.” Mya is one of the many teens who has been impacted by our educational programs.

A CORNERSTONE IN A SAFE AND NUTURING COMMUNITY

We recently asked some of our staff and Board of Directors what makes Neighborhood House of Milwaukee special to them. Kellan McCullough came to Neighborhood House as a teen and now works here as our Development Coordinator. 

“I came to Neighborhood House when I first moved here after my parents got divorced. Experiencing that kind of change as a young kid, Neighborhood House is a special place for me.”
